Behind the Scenes: Our First Dance Experience at Hawkstone Hall
There’s something truly special about helping couples prepare for one of the most memorable moments of their wedding day — their first dance. I’m Sally, the owner of Simply First Dance, and together with my wonderful husband Isaac, we recently hosted a magical First Dance Experience evening at the stunning Hawkstone Hall in Shropshire.
Set amongst the sweeping countryside, Hawkstone Hall provided the perfect backdrop for an evening filled with laughter, prosecco, and those little “aha!” dance moments that make our job so rewarding.
The Idea Behind the Event
Your first dance shouldn’t be something you dread; it should be a moment that feels relaxed, romantic, and completely you. That’s why I created our First Dance Experience events: to give couples a chance to learn a few simple moves, feel confident on the dance floor, and have fun in a beautiful setting before the big day.
Each event combines two 30-minute dance workshops with a sociable evening atmosphere — complete with canapés and prosecco, of course! It’s not just about dancing; it’s about connection and creating memories together before saying “I do.”
Teaching Together: Sally & Isaac
At every Simply First Dance event, we teach as a duo — one trained dancer (that’s me!) and one who’s… well, not so trained (that’s Isaac!).
I trained professionally at Wilkes Academy and graduated with a First-Class Degree in Performing Arts, while Isaac proudly represents our couples who claim to have two left feet. Together, we show that anyone can learn to dance — even those who start out feeling a little unsure.
At Hawkstone Hall, this balance worked perfectly. Isaac’s easy-going humour helped everyone relax, while I guided couples through steps, rhythm, and timing. It was wonderful to watch confidence grow with each song. By the end of the evening, couples who began hesitantly were moving beautifully in sync, smiling from ear to ear.
The Evening at Hawkstone Hall
The grand ballroom at Hawkstone Hall was the ideal setting — elegant, romantic, and full of charm. As couples arrived, they were greeted with a glass of prosecco and the warm buzz of excitement.
Between our two workshops, guests enjoyed delicious canapés and had the chance to explore the venue’s stunning rooms and gardens. The energy in the room was infectious — laughter, clinking glasses, and a shared sense of joy as everyone realised just how achievable their dream first dance could be.
Why We Love Doing This
For us, these events are about much more than choreography. They’re about giving couples the chance to share a meaningful, confidence-building experience together.
The feedback we received from Hawkstone Hall was heart-warming. Couples left feeling not only more prepared for their first dance but also more connected as a couple.
What’s Next?
Following the success of this event, we’re planning to bring the First Dance Experience to other beautiful venues across the West Midlands, the Cotswolds, and London.
If you’re a wedding venue interested in hosting something similar, we’d love to collaborate. It’s a wonderful way to give your couples a memorable evening while showcasing your venue in a fresh, engaging way.
